The Perfectionist – Short Film

About the Project

In this chilling short film, the haunting exploration of our darkest fears takes center stage as we delve into the psychological abyss of perfectionism.

The narrative is a haunting exploration, delving into the corrosive impact of the relentless pursuit of flawlessness on the human psyche. As a video producer, this project encapsulates my commitment to storytelling that transcends the surface, inviting viewers to confront the shadows within.

My Role

Filmmaker and video editor

Equipment and Software

Sony 6400. Adobe Premiere Pro.

Pre-production

The pre-production phase started with the creation of a detailed storyboard and shot list.

The storyboard served as a tangible sketch of the film’s aesthetic and narrative arc. It was a crucial tool in translating the abstract concept of perfectionism into a sequence of haunting images.

Production

The short film was shot in the Algonquin College campus, introducing a set of challenges that demanded creative problem-solving.

The decision to shoot on this location prompted challenges within the lighting setup. At the end we used additional lighting to achieve the desired look.

As to the audio within the short film, every single sound was recorded separately in a control environment inside a studio. This ensured that the audio had the best quality.

Post-production

In the post-production phase, we faced a unique challenge: weaving together two shots of the same person seamlessly. To achieve this, I created a mask on Adobe Premiere which enhanced the narrative depth of the film.

Colour correction was also necessary to give the footage a different look and feel in order to tell the story as it was planned.

Conclusion

Exploring the darkness of perfectionism became a journey not only into the fears of the characters but also a mirror reflecting the complexities of the human condition.

This project is very special to me as a video producer because it showed me that I’m able to craft narratives and tell stories in a different way.
